Functional systems are quite often replaced pre-maturely by end users, due to a perceived lack of functionality due to UI limitations or difficult integration with other systems. It is not unusual in our experience that very functional software be replaced by system with less functionality, simply because the user experience was better due to a more modern, intuitive UI. Why TEMBO?

TEMBO is the Swahili name for the African elephant (Loxodonta Africana) – an incredible animal of much beauty, the largest and most powerful animal on land.

 

It is a highly intelligent, cunning animal with a complex social life, fulfilling an important yet poorly understood role in the functioning of the African ecosystem. Beyond that, it is an emotive beast, commanding almost universal respect and admiration.  The elephant not only looks imposing, but is also one of the crowning glories in the Creation. The trunk is sensitive and mobile, and serves the functions of breathing, smelling, communicating, collecting and manipulating the great quantities of food and water the animal requires. It is also a formidable weapon.  The elephant communicates intelligently and subtly by voice, posture and the movements of the ears and trunk, and by low-frequency sounds inaudible to humans but travelling enormous distances. When angered, it intimidates an intruder by adopting a posture with head raised, ears spread and trunk lifted up – coiling menacingly. This body language sends an unmistakable signal: BEWARE…  The family group consisting of a cow with her offspring is the basic unit of elephant society. Related cows often live together permanently, forming herds. The matriarch – usually the oldest and most experienced animal – leads the herd. They run complex and very disciplined social structures and are exceptional parents, ensuring the highest rate of calf survival of any of the large mammals. The society is well ordered, and there is a strict hierarchy or pecking order.
